Bowl Losses and a New Kerry
I'm tired of the excuses. I'm tired of the assertion that it was everyone BUT the team and coaching staff's fault that OU lost the championship. The grass was not unfairly mowed and calls were not slanted. OU lost because USC is the better team. The fact that the Sooners made mistakes is not an EXCUSE to pass the blame, it is the REASON they went home losers. The signature of a good team is that in the big game, when everything is on the line, play is flawless. It is here OU missed the mark. OSU fans don't make excuses for our bowl loss. We sucked. Why cant the rest of the state follow suit and admit the undeniable?
On Kerry...I just read an article about his plans for the future. He really is considering running again? Didn't he lose badly enough the first time? Get a grip man! You lost the election fair and square and the last thing we need for the "new democratic party" is stale politics. I have confidence that a reasonable candidate will emerge before the next election to secure a democratic victory, but I know that Kerry is not it!
People need to embrace their losses instead of excuse them. This is so aggravating!

So I guess OSU basketball just needs to admit that Texas is a better team after last night's whipping, eh? Or have they already blamed it on the zebras in Stillwater, too? Fans are alike the world over (though I believe OSU fans to have an unusual anti-OU complex). Nobody wants to admit that they got beaten that badly on such a big stage. And I have heard enough talk radio out of Stillwater to know that it goes on there, too.
I suppose Eddie could have blamed our loss on the errant foul calls that took two of our starters out of the game, or the fact that Tucker (who scored 15 of texas' 2nd half points) was only in the game because it was MLK day and his "acedemic uncertianty" (i.e. the guy cant read) had not been reported. Or he could have claimed that the grass was too slippery...(wait that was an excuse for the ou loss)....BUT HE DIDN'T MAKE EXCUSES! Sutton blamed the loss on poor shot selection, lack of zone penetration, and some sweet Texas offensive plays. This is what seperates the men from the boys...uhh...sooners. Perspective on a loss that allows you to look at what you did wrong and can improve upon for the next game.
PS Why in the h*ll was the crowd taunting TC for the whole game? He is one of the nicest (and most attractive!) guys out there! I think they felt the need to pay retribution for what our fans put Boddicker through over the last 4 years. That guy was the man that every OSU b-ball fan loved to hate.
Indeed, Sutton does a good job with the press. He says all the right things, as every good coach does. But the issue is not about what Sutton or Stoops have to say after a loss. "When everything is on the line, play must be flawless" or you are not a good team, according to your blog. So did OSU forfeit their claim to being a good basketball team by losing to Texas? (who OU just beat, by the way, but I digress)
Look, State can play some basketball. And Stoops had an amazing team this year. No team should be judged based on their performance in a single game, no matter how big. Nobody can win every big game, or else those games must not have been that big, eh? I could say nasty things about State's record once they made the Final Four, but that is pretty petty if I want to say they suck because they are "only" one of the top four teams in the country.
Bottom line: I wish you could see more of the state than Stillwater. OU is no evil empire. And OSU fans sound just as ridiculous when they get sent home one game into the Final Four.
Comparing the final four to a bowl game is completely ridiculous....like comparing apples to oranges. They are two totally different sports and the road to championships is a very different process in each. You do know how the bracket's work right?
It's not that I see OU as an evil empire, for they are certainly no empire. I just find it humorous when slackjawed fans around the state (and good ol' Deano) come out of the woodwork before a bedlam or a bowl game rasin' their OU flags and postin' their "Stoops for President" bumper stickers, then after a loss take up airwaves complaining about how the loss was someone else's fault and maybe Stoops should resign afterall.
I do have quite a few friends in the city who are huge OU fans and I never argue with them and here's why....they have degrees from OU!!! I'm totally cool with standing behind your alma mater. Afterall, that's what I'm doing. Its when people just feel the need to attach themselves to the win and will jump ship the moment they see a leak that things in this state get ugly. There is really no better example of this "groupthink" phenomena than in this state. I know that it happens to OSU as well, but just not as severely. Fans of OSU sports tend to stay fans for life...even through the tough years. Did you watch the b-ball games when jonzen was our only outside shooter and Andre couldn't hit the rim on a free throw if you payed him? I bet not. But I was there, standing on the floor after standing in line for hours (and hours, and hours) in the cold, with a packed stadium cheering them on regardless.
I'm sure you've heard the joke: "what's the difference between a OU fan and a OSU fan?"......"The state fan has degree and a full set of teeth!"
Look, all I am saying is that I grew up in OK just a few miles from Stillwater. I may not have a degree from either school, but I did have to spend the first eighteen years of my life listening to both sets of fans. The only difference between a Sooner and Cowboy fan is the color they wear on gameday and the sport they have the most pride in. Sheesh. I have counted teeth at the Stillwater Wal-Mart. It ain't pretty there, either.
